Matcha lattes are not just for hipsters or trendy Melbourne cafes. This delicious beverage has been around for centuries. There are many benefits behind this incredible green-coloured superfood!
Matcha powder is made from finely ground whole tea leaves. Unlike other teas, matcha uses the entire leaf. Because of this, it is a fantastic source of antioxidants and vitamins. Get all the health benefits with this matcha latte recipe. Make it at home in minutes, with just 4 ingredients!
Antioxidants help reduce cell damage and may help fight off chronic disease. With its vibrant green colour, matcha powder also provides a high level of chlorophyll which can help to detoxify the blood, stimulate the immune system, boost energy, reduce odours and improve some skin conditions. It is also a good source of vitamin C, which stimulates collagen. This means that matcha can help contribute to healthy, glowing hair, skin and nails.
Whilst matcha is also a source of caffeine, people often experience the same alertness associated with a cup of coffee but without the associated caffeine crash. Traditionally, matcha drink is made by pouring hot water over the powder, then combining it with milk that is “frothed” with a bamboo whisk. These days, matcha is found on the menu at any good cafe and is made using similar methods to a hot chocolate or matcha’s second cousin, The Turmeric Latte.
Many people even use Matcha powder when making wholefood bliss balls, slices and even pancakes. Although, our favourite way of enjoying a cup of matcha is the timeless Matcha Latte.
